Located off the coast of Newfoundland in Canada, Fogo Island Arts supports artistic research and production for artists, curators, filmmakers, writers and designers from around the world. Fogo Island Arts programs include artist residencies, exhibitions and publications, and a series of think tank events called the Fogo Island Dialogues, held on Fogo Island and in other locations. All Fogo Island Arts initiatives are part of a social enterprise-based business model that supports the economic viability of the Fogo Island Inn and the growth of tourism on Fogo Island.

ResidenciesFogo Island Arts residencies provide opportunities for artists and thinkers from a wide range of disciplines to live and work on Fogo Island for periods ranging from three to six months. All participants in our Residency Program live in heritage houses; four off-the-grid studios designed by architect Todd Saunders are made available to artists-in-residence who have a studio-based practice. Situated at different locations around the island, the studios and artists' homes help connect participants in our programs with the day-to-day lives of the Island's local communities.
2013–2014 call for proposalsFor its 2013–14 residencies, Fogo Island Arts is seeking proposals for projects to be produced within the organization's Education Program. We welcome proposals from curators, artists, designers and art educators engaged in community-based practices that are sensitive to context.
Proposals should take into account the unique circumstances under which Fogo Island Arts carries out its programs. Fogo Island Arts is located on a small island in rural Newfoundland, and is an agency of the Shorefast Foundation, a Canadian registered charity dedicated to creating cultural and economic resiliency for the people of Fogo Island and Change Islands.

Open Call for Artists (Winter 2025-26) Last Ship Art Residency @Khajuraho

Artist in residence: The artist studios of Last Ship are situated opposite the UNESCO World Heritage temples of Khajuraho. The Viswanath temple built in 999 AD is right in front, less than 20 meters from Last Ship. Little known prehistoric and ancient historic sites in this region tell parts of a story more than 10,000 years old, of the Mughals, the Chandelas, going back to the Guptas, the Kushans, the Shungas and the Indo-Greeks all the way to prehistoric cave-dwellers, revealing secrets of the birth of the philosophies of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism and their common Tantric spiritual traditions. The artists of the residency are invited to have their own experience of this heritage, like the sadhus, aghoris, and mystics who make solitary pilgrimages through this region, called the most powerful tantric region in the world, in search of enlightenment. The Last Ship residency program is a one-of-a-kind experience of a history, nature and culture, hidden in the chaos and turmoil...
