UNESCO-ASCHBERG BURSARIES FOR ARTISTS PROGRAMME 2014
The UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Programme, www.unesco.org/culture/aschberg, provides emerging artists in various disciplines with bursaries to international art residency programs. The bursaries are restricted to certain disciplines and geographic regions, with requirements varying from residency to residency.
Three bursaries to the Instituto Sacatar are awarded annually through the UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Programme, in creative writing, visual arts and music composition. These bursaries are intended to professional artists from 25 to 35 years old, born and living in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Russia, the former Soviet Republics, Australia, New Zealand and/or the Pacific Islands (that is, anywhere in the world with the exception of Western Europe and the Americas.)
A UNESCO-Aschberg bursary to the Instituto Sacatar provides artists the time and space to produce new work and to interact with the dynamic culture of Bahia. Specifically, the bursary provides:
- Round-trip airfare, in economy class and accordingly to the Residency dates, between the artist’s nearest international airport and Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. UNESCO-Aschberg manages the travel arrangements.
- A two-month stay, from 13 October to 8 December 2014, at the Sacatar estate on the island of Itaparica, including:
- a room with private bathroom;
- a separate working studio;
- all meals (except Saturday evenings, Sundays and holidays);
- laundry service;
- logistical support for the execution of the artist’s intentions.
There is no additional stipend; the artist is responsible for his or her own working materials and any personal expenses (local transportation, incidental meals, etc.) for the duration of the residency.
There is no application fee.
Applications must be submitted from 2 September 2013 to 14 October 2013.
The bursary recipient will assume all costs to secure the necessary visas. We do not accept artists who want to use Sacatar as a base for travel and research in other countries. We are looking for someone who commits to being here in the Institution for the full eight-week period, from 13 October to 8 December 2014.
Artists that have already participated in the UNESCO-Aschberg Programme in the past are not eligible. The UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists Programme is granted only once to an artist.
