Open Call for DELFINA FOUNDATION, LONDON

With support from the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation and Charles Wallace India Trust, Delfina Foundation is offering a three-month residency to an artist with Indian citizenship, living and working in India, and under the age of 40.  The residency period is 5 July to 26 September 2016 and will overlap with Delfina Foundation’s thematic programme on The Politics of Food.  As a result, the residency will particularly benefit those with an interest in food and its wider relationship to the environment, agriculture, financial markets, political and social movements, public engagement, and/or the commons.

In summer 2016, Delfina Foundation’s The Politics of Food series will enter its third season. Since 2014, this programme has brought together over 70 artists, activists, anthropologists, agronomists, chefs, curators, scientists and writers from 32 countries through residencies, events and exhibitions. The first season in winter 2014 introduced a number of general environmental, economic and social concerns that have guided the overall programme, while the second season in spring 2015 specifically explored the relationship between food and three sub-themes: Sex, Diet & Disaster.

The Politics of Food: Markets & Movements will continue to deepen our investigation of this theme. Over twelve weeks, we want to work with artists, curators and thinkers to investigate the production and distribution of food.

Delfina is interested in exploring complex and urgent issues such as farmers’ rights and developments in biotechnological food sciences; ‘fair trade’ and food sovereignty as well as the rise of consumer choice and its impact from food fads to major collective movements such as the Organic and Slow Food movements.

The programme will bring together the applicant from this open call with an invited group of international resident artists and visiting experts and thinkers. In addition, residents will work alongside UK associate artists to share ideas and research. This will take place through both a series of internal events with a range of invited specialists and a public programme.

With support from Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation and Charles Wallace India Trust, the selected artist will receive a 12-week residency at DF in London, including accommodation in our premises in Central London, one economy return flight, a bursary for per diems and a local travel allowance.

Open Call for Artists (Winter 2025-26) Last Ship Art Residency @Khajuraho

Artist in residence: The artist studios of Last Ship are situated opposite the UNESCO World Heritage temples of Khajuraho. The Viswanath temple built in 999 AD is right in front, less than 20 meters from Last Ship. Little known prehistoric and ancient historic sites in this region tell parts of a story more than 10,000 years old, of the Mughals, the Chandelas, going back to the Guptas, the Kushans, the Shungas and the Indo-Greeks all the way to prehistoric cave-dwellers, revealing secrets of the birth of the philosophies of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism and their common Tantric spiritual traditions. The artists of the residency are invited to have their own experience of this heritage, like the sadhus, aghoris, and mystics who make solitary pilgrimages through this region, called the most powerful tantric region in the world, in search of enlightenment. The Last Ship residency program is a one-of-a-kind experience of a history, nature and culture, hidden in the chaos and turmoil...
