ARCUS Project marks 30 years of supporting artists in the field of contemporary art to cultivate their artistic vision through our residency programs. Since 1994, we invited 122 artists/groups from 37 countries and regions, and our dedication to support their creative expression remains steadfast. 

Artist-in-residence program provides a contemplative environment for in-depth fieldwork and research. Through the support, the program offers from its dedicated team of coordinators and regular tutorials with a curator, artists can explore approaches in their practices and undertake new challenges in their artistic expression. The program particularly emphasizes research-based practices and presents the initial results of these processes at open studios. We welcome ideas for projects that develop out of encounters with people, the land, and culture, and aspire to form critical discourse that are open and international.

Program period
August 30 through November 27, 2024 (90 days) 

Eligibility
--- be an artist engaged in contemporary visual arts or other related fields.
--- be resident outside Japan and able to enter Japan legally.
--- have completed his/her educational program as of July 2024 and not be enrolled at an educational institution during the program period unless it is a PhD program.
--- have an English-language ability proficient enough to communicate with other artists and staff.

Program Provisions (Full-funded) 
The artist is provided with 567,000 JPY for living and work expenses.  A studio, accommodation, round-trip airfare, and staff support are provided.

Open Call! The Djerassi Program is now accepting applications for 2025 Artists in Residence program until September 12.

The Djerassi Resident Artist Program has awarded over 2500 writers, visual/media artists, composers, choreographers, filmmakers, and scientists for the past 41 years the gift of time and space with a one-month residency on our 583-acre ranch in Northern California's Santa Cruz Mountains. All at no cost to the artists. We offer four and five-week residencies throughout the year across all disciplines: Visual arts, media arts, music composition, choreography, literary arts, and science. Designed as a retreat, the residency provides an environment for personal creative work and fosters collegial interaction within a supportive community of artists. Residencies are awarded competitively, at no cost, to national and international artists.
