Sculpture Space Funded Residency.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: DECEMBER 1, 2012
SCULPTURE SPACE, located in Utica, New York invites artists whose focus is sculpture to apply for a two-month residency between September 2012 and August 2013.  Eighteen to twenty residents are selectively chosen each year; a stipend of $2000 is awarded to offset costs (dependent on funding).
We offer a 5500 square foot shared studio with specialized equipment in addition to two private studios.  The Studio Manager provides ongoing assistance and technical expertise, the Office Manager and Executive Director are available to assist with any other special requirements.  Basic understanding and communication skills in English are necessary. Three to four artists are in residence each month; artists are expected to stay for a full two months.  Housing is provided a block away in a newly-renovated residence with private bedrooms, washer/dryer, television, free Wifi and shared living space for a small fee (free to New York State residents).
Artists are responsible for materials, specialized tools and food.  Bicycles are provided; transport for materials purchase and other needs is also available.  Artists are required to acknowledge Sculpture Space when works made while in residence are subsequently exhibited or published and must provide high-quality images of works for the website, archives and publications.  In addition, we request that artists consider donating an artwork to be sold at our annual CHAIRity art auction, held every September, benefitting Sculpture Space’s programming.
The studio and house are located in downtown Utica, situated in Central New York's scenic Mohawk Valley.  Because of Sculpture Space’s long history and presence in Utica, the community is supportive and receptive to community-based site-specific work.  Since 1976, Sculpture Space has helped to support the careers and studio practice of over 400 national and international artists from around the world.  As desired, artists and arts professionals (including curators and writers) are invited for informal studio visits. The collaborative environment of the studio and the communal aspects of the residence helps foster dialogue, exchange of ideas, creative experimentation and both personal and professional connections.  In addition to the CHAIRity fundraiser in September, the public is invited to Works in Progress receptions (held every few months); other visits are arranged by appointment.
Residents are selected by a Review Committee.  A guest juror is also included, this year: Tracy Adler, Director of the new Wellin Museum of Hamilton College.  Artists are notified in March.  Primary criteria for selection are simple: artists are chosen based on the quality, originality and potential of their work.
Our application is now ONLINE.   Applications accepted from OCTOBER 1 - DECEMBER 1, 2012 at: http://www.slideroom/sculpturespace.com

Open Call for Artists (Winter 2025-26) Last Ship Art Residency @Khajuraho

Artist in residence: The artist studios of Last Ship are situated opposite the UNESCO World Heritage temples of Khajuraho. The Viswanath temple built in 999 AD is right in front, less than 20 meters from Last Ship. Little known prehistoric and ancient historic sites in this region tell parts of a story more than 10,000 years old, of the Mughals, the Chandelas, going back to the Guptas, the Kushans, the Shungas and the Indo-Greeks all the way to prehistoric cave-dwellers, revealing secrets of the birth of the philosophies of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism and their common Tantric spiritual traditions. The artists of the residency are invited to have their own experience of this heritage, like the sadhus, aghoris, and mystics who make solitary pilgrimages through this region, called the most powerful tantric region in the world, in search of enlightenment. The Last Ship residency program is a one-of-a-kind experience of a history, nature and culture, hidden in the chaos and turmoil...
