55TH NATIONAL EXHIBITION OF ART 2013-2014 INDIA FOR AN INDIAN ARTIST

GENERAL CONDITIONS
LAST DATE TO APPLY: The last date for receiving the Form in the office of the Akademi is on or before 30th November 2013

OBJECTIVES
1. The objective of the 55th National Exhibition of Art, 2013-2014 is to present works of art of excellence both in terms of material application and aesthetic appeal. The exhibition will cover a broad range of art works of all mediums like painting, sculpture, graphic, photo-graph, drawing, installation and multi-media. Maximum number of exhibits displayed will be 120.

JURY
2. A two tier jury system will be in place for selecting the exhibits and deciding the awards. The first team of jury members will review the entries received in response to the prospectus which are ticked “For Competition” or “Not For Competition”. The selection will be made by the jury only on the basis of the photograph/sketch or layout/plan of the installation received (not returnable) with the entry form along with the bio-data of the artists belonging to India. The second team of jury members will select the award winning works from the exhibits selected by the first jury. The second jury has the right to discard the entries selected by the preliminary jury.

 ELIGIBILITY
 3. Only the exhibits selected out of the entries received in the attached entry form and ticked “For Competition” will be eligible for awards given by the Lalit Kala Akademi. Artists who have already won an award in the National Exhibition of Art or International Exhibition organised by the Akademi since its inception in August 1954 are not eligible for competition. The entry of an artist who has already displayed in National Exhibition of Art but not won an award, will be eligible for competing for the award.
4. The General Council Members of the Akademi may participate in the National Exhibition of Art but are not eligible for the award. 
5. Minimum age limit for participation in the National Exhibition of Art is 18 years as on 1st October 2013.
6. The exhibits for display in the exhibition must have been fully executed by the artist on or after 1st January 
2013 and photograph sent must be of exhibits offered for exhibition. The maximum size of the exhibits should not be more than 6’x6’ for a Painting/Graphic prints, 3’x3’x2’ for a Sculpture/Ceramics. The photographs etc. will be retained by the Akademi in its archives and no correspondence on this account will be entertained.
7. The entry fee of Rs. 300/- where it is specified will be accepted only in the form of Postal Order/Bank Draft payable to Secretary, Lalit Kala Akademi drawn on New Delhi Branch. If no Postal Order/Bank Draft is received, the entry form which is ticked “For Competition”, will be treated as “Not For Competition” and the exhibits will not be eligible for the award.
8. The number of the Postal Order / Bank Draft for Rs. 300/- and date of issue by Post Office / Bank must be entered in the entry form at the space provided.
9. The entry fee will not be accepted in cash or in any other form except Postal Order / Bank Draft.

DEPOSIT OF SELECTED EXHIBITS
10. No exhibit will be sent by any entrant to the Akademi unless instruction is sent to the artists by the Akademi. After selection is completed by the Jury, the selected artists will be asked to send their exhibits to the Akademi at specified collection point. The exhibits will have to be deposited duly packed and packing-fi -t for transportation by truck/road.

AWARDS
11. There will be ten awards, each carrying a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees one lakh each) for ten works of outstanding merit selected by a Jury constituted by the Akademi. It will not be binding for the jury to select ten exhibits for awards, if in their opinion less than ten exhibits deserve awards. All awards will carry a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- each and under no circumstances it can be either reduced or increased. 

12. Only exhibits of artists who send entry form with Postal Order/Bank Draft for Rs. 300/- in response to this prospectus and marked “For Competition” will be eligible for awards. 

13. Canvassing in any form by any artist for award or approaching any member of the Jury will be a disqualification for Award. 
14. It is obligatory on the part of the Jury to declare that he/she is not in anyway related to the artists selected for display and awards.

 INSURANCE & TRANSPORTATION
15. The Akademi, as a part of its art promotion endeavour, would bear the expenses on freight/transportation of the exhibits from the specified place to the place of exhibition and back. In order to help secure the interest of artists the Akademi will also extend free of charge, an insurance cover of up to Rs. 25,000/- only for each exhibit, which would, of course, be subject to the terms and conditions of the insurance policy. It is, however, made clear that the Akademi would not be responsible or liable in any manner whatsoever for any damage to or loss of the exhibit(s) and the participation in the National Exhibition of Art would be solely and exclusively at the artist’s own risk.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS
16. All correspondence with the artists will be made by the Akademi at the address given in the Prospectus. The artists should inform the Akademi of any change of address immediately, failing which the Akademi will not be responsible, for non-receipt of communication. Artists must ensure someone receives the letter at their address and letters do not come back to the Akademi.

INVITATION FOR EXHIBITION
17. Invitation for the inauguration of the exhibition will be sent to all the artists whose exhibits will be on display and a copy of the catalogue will be given as complimentary to them at the exhibition or sent to their address after the closure of the exhibition. No liability for any TA/DA will be borne by the Akademi. The artists considered for awards will be invited to attend the Award function and TA/local hospitalities will be paid/arranged as per norms.

RETURN OF EXHIBITS
18. After the exhibition is over the Akademi shall arrange to send the exhibits back at the collection & delivery centre. Artists must ascertain arrival of the exhibit at the collection and delivery centre after the exhibition is over. A letter will be sent to the artists by the Akademi intimating dispatch of the exhibit to the collection and delivery centre. But, whether the communication reaches or not the artist should enquire from the centre and the Akademi about the receipt of the exhibit at the centre. The insurance cover provided by the Akademi will be invalid after a period of 10 days from the arrival of the exhibit at the collection and delivery centre. In case the artwork is received in damaged condition by the artist, he/she shall report immediately in writing to the Secretary, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi latest by 10 days from the receipt of 
the exhibit otherwise the request will not be considered.

FILLING OF THE ENTRY FORM
19. Artists must fill in all the pages of the Entry Form including the bio-data. The bio-data will also be placed before the Jury. Entry form received from artists who have not signed the declaration below the bio-data section will not be considered by the Akademi. Artists should also enclose their two passport size photographs, one to be pasted in the Entry Form and the other may be clipped together with the Entry Form for the exhibition catalogue.

The Djerassi Resident Artist Program has awarded over 2500 writers, visual/media artists, composers, choreographers, filmmakers, and scientists for the past 41 years the gift of time and space with a one-month residency on our 583-acre ranch in Northern California's Santa Cruz Mountains. We offer four and five-week residencies throughout the year across all disciplines: Visual arts, media arts, music composition, choreography, literary arts, and science.
