FICA RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP 2013

The Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art invites applicants for FICA Research Fellowship 2013.

The fellowship is made possible through collaborating with the Department of Visual Cultures and the PhD. Program in Curatorial/Knowledge, Goldsmiths, University of London, Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts) and Delfina Foundation, London.

The Research Fellowship 2013 aims to provide an opportunity for intensive research in the field of visual arts/culture. It lays emphasis on exploring innovative models of cross-cultural dialogue, and provides professional development opportunities for curators and researchers through interlocking activities.

We invite project proposals from researchers and curators with Indian citizenship.

  • The proposal should be for an innovative visual arts/culture project.
  • Priority will be given to projects that engage with specific artistic and/or cultural issues in India.
  • Preference will be given to research that might benefit from the work that is being done by the Fellowship’s partner institutions in London.
  • We welcome research that is already underway; however new areas of research can also be proposed if it can be conducted during the fellowship period.
Apply now - For full details on how to apply download the FICA Research Fellowship Application Form from here - PDF or WORD. Please read the terms and conditions, and make sure you have included all required information before submitting the application. Completed applications can be submitted via email to info@ficart.org

Deadline for submission of application is 06th July 2013.

The recipient will be chosen by a jury comprising independent scholars in the field of visual arts and members from Goldsmiths, Iniva, Delfina Foundation and FICA.

The recipient will receive -
  • A 10-12 week residency in London during the autumn semester (see Timeline below for details), air travel to London from Delhi/Mumbai and back, and a stipend. Please note that any request for change in dates will not be accommodated.
  • The recipient’s accommodation in London will be taken care of by The Delfina Foundation.
  • Access to attend Goldsmith’s post-graduate courses and the Curatorial/Knowledge seminars.
  • Personal mentoring from faculty members of Goldsmiths and Iniva, among other opportunities.
The partnership with Delfina Foundation enables the participation of an additional research fellow from the Middle East & North Africa, alongside the one from India supported by FICA. The initiative will provide opportunities for both fellows to undergo the programme together, which may result in exciting opportunities for knowledge exchange and critical discourse between the two fellows. Please note that Indian participants should apply directly to FICA and applicants from Turkey should apply to Delfina Foundation (delfinafoundation.com).

Open Call for Artists (Winter 2025-26) Last Ship Art Residency @Khajuraho

Artist in residence: The artist studios of Last Ship are situated opposite the UNESCO World Heritage temples of Khajuraho. The Viswanath temple built in 999 AD is right in front, less than 20 meters from Last Ship. Little known prehistoric and ancient historic sites in this region tell parts of a story more than 10,000 years old, of the Mughals, the Chandelas, going back to the Guptas, the Kushans, the Shungas and the Indo-Greeks all the way to prehistoric cave-dwellers, revealing secrets of the birth of the philosophies of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism and their common Tantric spiritual traditions. The artists of the residency are invited to have their own experience of this heritage, like the sadhus, aghoris, and mystics who make solitary pilgrimages through this region, called the most powerful tantric region in the world, in search of enlightenment. The Last Ship residency program is a one-of-a-kind experience of a history, nature and culture, hidden in the chaos and turmoil...
